Posted on 10/10/2022 by Dr Jonathan Ford
What Is Oral Cancer? The squamous cells that line the lips, tongue, gums, and mouth are where the majority of oral malignancies develop. Squamous cell carcinomas are what they are known as. However, not all growths or tumors in the mouth are cancerous. Some are benign, whilst others are precancerous, which means they have the potential to develop into cancer but are not yet malignancy.

Oral Cancer Risk Factors

Risk factors are everything that raises your risk of developing cancer. Risk factors are implicated in a large number of mouth cancer cases. Without any known risk factors, oral cancer can occur in some patients.

Alcohol

Many oral cancer patients are strong drinkers who average more than 21 alcoholic beverages each week. Alcohol and cigarette use together can be very harmful. Oral cancer is six times more common in those who smoke and drink alcohol than in non-smokers.

Oral Cancer Prevention

One of the most preventable malignancies is oral cancer. You can reduce your risk of getting oral cancer by doing the following: Avoid all forms of tobacco. For a thorough oral examination, see our dentist at least once each year. Limit your alcohol consumption. Remove your dentures at night and clean them every day if you wear them. Consume a wide range of fruits and vegetables as part of a balanced, healthy diet.

Our clinics offer a dedicated venue for diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment of precancerous lesions because early diagnosis increases your chances of a successful course of therapy. New optical methods, which are less intrusive than biopsy, could aid in the earlier detection of some mouth malignancies. For more information call us today.
